What is feminist science fiction from Abya Yala? What emerges when we set out to write science fiction without the arrogance of Western science? What do we see when we discard the universalization of a white, cisheteropatriarchal, individualist, and ableist vision?

Excerpts from the introduction with free translation to english

These are texts that emerged during the intense course of eight online meetings, held twice a week during the month of October 2024. The participants were selected through an open call to participate in the workshop, which we launched a month earlier through Coding Rights and Musea M.A.M.I. With the certainty that imagining is a political exercise, we decided to carry it out despite not being exactly experts in science fiction. Our relationship with the topic came from years of work connected to free technologies and reflection on how new technologies affect access to human rights. More recently, also, from our interest in reconnecting with ancestral technologies that are our own or widely used in our territories.

The stories presented below bring imaginaries that, by being situated in dissident bodies and territories, draw future-presents that are sometimes rooted in precious memories of the past-present. Other times, they transmute colonial and patriarchal violence into moments of dreams or revenge, where the established order changes to finally crush the constant everyday dystopia. These are embodied narratives that, by bringing elements from the cultures we inhabit, take us on different journeys toward our political fictions. The science that is invoked, the “sci” of the “fi“, is also one that recognizes (and comes from) our local and ancestral knowledge and wisdom. Memory, dreams, the presence of grandmothers, and the power of dissident communities that, in connection with territories, stars, and other beings, awaken new forms of existence. From this arise some of the themes of the stories in this book.
